The federal government has two multi-billion dollar programs designed to alleviate hunger and poor nutrition; the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (better known as WIC); and, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program).
