Fellows Grub It Up in MilwaukeePosted Sat., November 14, 2009 at 2:00 am by abigailaugusta After a truly inspirational Growing Food and Justice Gathering in Milwaukee, Grub It Up is fired-up and ready to go! On Friday night of the Gathering FAS Fellows co-hosted a Grub Party featuring recipes from Bryant Terry's latest book, Vegan Soul Kitchen. Although we devoured the Gumbo Z, sweet potato fries with peanut dipping sauce, butter-drop biscuits, Sweetback salad, and baked apples stuffed with cranberries and currents, it wasn't just about the food: Earlier in the day, Arnell, Andrea and Bryant led a workshop and discussion on "Good Food For All People of Color," and at the meal, Bryant challenged us to use the sensual pleasures of the table as a starting point for a deeper conversation about ensuring that ALL people--regardless of income, race, or geographic location--have access to Good Food. We hope this event will prove to be a launching pad for a larger discussion around race and the food system. |
